Pirates sign first-round draft pick Quinn Priester

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have signed right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester, the 18th overall selection in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Pirates Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington along with Senior Director of Scouting, Joe DelliCarri. The 18-year-old Priester posted an 8-2 record, a 1.00 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 60.1 innings as a senior this year at Cary-Grove High School in Cary, Illinois.

Area behavioral health organization opens new location in Bellefonte

Daycare owner, workers arrested for giving children melatonin without permission

MANCHESTER, N.H. (TND) — A group of caretakers are accused of giving children melatonin without the consent of their parents. The owner of a New Hampshire in-home daycare, Sally Dreckmann, was arrested on child endangerment charges. Dreckmann's arrest comes after a lengthy investigation after Manchester police detectives got a tip in November 2023 about "unsafe practices going on" at the daycare at 316 Amory Street. Investigators discovered that the food made for children at the daycare was being sprinkled with melatonin, according to authorities.

Penn Highlands officials warning residents of 'scam' phone calls

DUBOIS - Penn Highlands Healthcare officials are warning residents of what they are calling scam phone calls. According to officials, a person is pretending to be a representative from Penn Highlands and is asking unsuspecting victims for their personal information and are also trying to sell insurance and benefit packages. Officials said that the caller ID is coming up as Penn Highlands. Penn Highlands officials said that no one from the facility is selling such packages and are reminding to citizens to not share any personal information.

Steelers linebacker Cole Holcomb suffers season-ending knee injury

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Cole Holcomb reportedly suffered a season-ending knee injury in Thursday night's victory over the Tennessee Titans. According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, Holcomb is expected to undergo surgery after being carted off in the first quarter of Thursday's game. Head Coach Mike Tomlin told reporters after the game that Holcomb's injury was "serious." Holcomb spent the first four years of his career with the Washington Commanders.

12 injured in apartment floor collapse near IUP

INDIANA, Pa. (AP) — A dozen people were injured in the collapse of a second-story floor inside an apartment complex near a western Pennsylvania over the weekend, authorities said. Seven people were taken to hospitals and five others were treated at the scene after the 11:50 p.m. Saturday collapse at Elm by Traverse Commons about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, state police told the Tribune-Review. Trooper Cliff Greenfield said the victims had injuries ranging from serious to minor.

Fire kills woman, teenage brother, injures 2 other relatives

ASHLAND, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a woman and her teenage brother were killed in a fire that destroyed an eastern Pennsylvania home, also injuring two other relatives. Officials in Schuylkill County said the blaze was reported at about 12:30 a.m. Friday in the Butler Township residence. Fire officials said crews arrived to find that the structure had collapsed and were unable to reach the victims. Chief Edward Tarantelli of the township police force said the bodies of 29-year-old Alison Marie Houser and her 13-year-old brother, Andrew John "
