“We're going to do better next year.” That's what the head of the Pennsylvania Game Commission told state lawmakers about the problems with the online sales of antlerless deer hunting licenses.
June 26th marked the first day rollout of the new online system, a day many hunters would rather forget.
Initial problems with the system created frustrations and long wait times for license sales.
In reality, after glitches were fixed, it was a busy time for the game commission.
Blair Co. officials preparing for annual homeless population count; volunteers welcome
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The Blair County Community Action Program is getting ready to conduct its annual count of homeless people in the area.
The count, which will take place on Wednesday, is a requirement from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
HUD takes the numbers and uses them to determine how much funding will be allocated to help the homeless.
The most recent report shows there are currently 250 people within the city of Altoona who are homeless.

Among the new details, employees of Advanced Disposal Services witnessed a vertical crack on the landfill cell that eventually collapsed two days before, according to a general inspection report by Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Philipsburg man charged with rape after sexually assaulting child, police say
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A Philipsburg man is facing sexual assault charges after forcing a child to perform sex acts with him Oct. 15, police say.
According to a criminal complaint, David Heck, 18, was spotted by two witnesses in the woods naked with the child.
Police said the witnesses noticed Heck was masturbating over the child and asked what they were doing.
According to the criminal complaint, Heck said they would leave, and when the witnesses noticed Heck was with a child, they called police and followed them out of the woods.

Bedford chef creates giant Gingerbread Village at Omni Bedford Springs Resort
Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — A massive gingerbread village just inside the Omni Bedford Springs Resort isn't meant for eating, just enjoying.
The resort's pastry chef was challenged to outdo the house he made last year, and he did just that with a Christmas wonderland.
The full display is 34 feet wide and 12 feet tall.
Forty-five students at the Bedford County Technical Center built the framework.
He and his staff then went to work adding the 6,800 bricks made from 240 pounds of gingerbread dough, 60 pounds of royal icing, 40 pounds of marshmallow, 360 chocolate bars, 100 York peppermint patties and 1,400 peppermints.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the 2-alarm fire, which broke out along the 100 block of Wilson Ave. in DuBois around 6:30 p.m.
Authorities say three firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, two of which were treated at Penn Highlands DuBois while the other was treated on scene.
