Pennsylvania's unemployment rate hits record low, matching national average

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry released a statement saying that the state’s unemployment rate declined to 3.5% in July, the lowest rate on record. The rate dropped 0.8% compared to July of last year when it was at 4.3%. The state’s civilian labor force – the estimated number of residents working or looking for work – was down 9,000 over the past month. Resident employment rose by 6,000 and unemployment fell by 15,000.

Police seeking at least 1 suspect for Clearfield restaurant burglary

CLEARFIELD, Pa. (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania State Police says it is investigating a burglary that happened at a restaurant in Clearfield County. According to state police, the burglary happened at the Riverfront Bar and Grill on Market Street in Karthaus Township between 11 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday. State police say at least one person cut the electric power to the restaurant before entering through the front door of the bar area by force.

Pressley Ridge students and faculty prepare to head back into class on Tuesday

Johnstown, Pa. (WJAC) — Pressley Ridge in Cambria County is set to head back for their first day of school this upcoming Tuesday. The school supports students with emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as those who are on the autism spectrum. The school's program director, Andrea Roberts, says they’re fortunate to have big classrooms and small class sizes for social distancing purposes. She says one of the biggest changes students will see this year: masks.

Teenage fugitive in Philadelphia may have been picked up by accomplice, authorities say

Leg in Lake Erie from Ohio plane crash

ERIE, Pa. -- A human leg found off the Pennsylvania coast of Lake Erie was from one of three unaccounted for victims of a plane crash near Cleveland last year. Erie County, Pennsylvania Coroner Lyell Cook confirmed the DNA findings Friday. He said the crash victims' families asked his office not to specify to which victim the leg belonged. The Dec. 29 crash killed six people, including three found soon after: pilot John Fleming, 45, of Dublin, Ohio; his 15-year-old son, Jack; and a family friend, Brian Casey, 50, of Powell, Ohio.

Officials applying for funding to expand Blair County airport

Blair County, PA — Airport manager Tracy Plessinger says the travel experience could soon change at the Altoona/Blair County airport, and that the airport is submitting it's candidacy for funding. Airlines there include Contour which connects people in central PA to Philadelphia and beyond, with 2 flights per day. Contour is an operator with American Airlines flights, which Plessinger says means you don't have to recheck your bags, or have 2 tickets.

One person in custody following early morning police raid in Upper Yoder Township, authorities say

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities say one person was taken into custody early Thursday morning following an alleged police raid at a home along Old Hickory Lane, in Upper Yoder Township. Officials say the arrest was part of an investigation by the state attorney general's office. Police say the individual, who has not yet been identified, was arrested on an active drug warrant. Authorities with Johnstown Police, Upper Yoder Police, Cambria County SERT and state parole assisted with the arrest.
