Child rapist found dead in cell at SCI Houtzdale, investigators say

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — An SCI Houtzdale inmate in prison for child rape was pronounced dead Tuesday, according to a press release. Superintendent of the State Correctional Institute at Houtzdale Scott Klinefelter stated in the release that Daniel Barnett, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday afternoon by prison staff. According to the release, prison staff and medical personnel performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene. The release states that Barnett was pronounced dead just before 4:30 p.

Investigator killed in North Carolina shootout to be laid to rest

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TND) — A memorial service for one of the four law enforcement officers who were killed while trying to serve a warrant in North Carolina is set for Thursday. William "Alden" Elliott was fatally shot April 29. Elliot was assigned to the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force and was a 14-year veteran of the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Man sentenced for 2011 motel murder

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man was sentenced Monday morning to life without parole in a murder case. Jaime Osuna previously pleaded guilty to six charges to avoid the death penalty. He admitted to killing 37-year-old Yvette Pena in November 2011. Pena had been found at the El Morocco Motel on Golden State Avenue. Investigators said she had been gagged, and she was found with "stabbing instruments" protruding from her back.

Suspects burglarize Windber Country Club; steal cash from Skill, payout machines

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Take a look at this! Surveillance video from inside the Windber Country Club shows two suspects burglarizing the establishment overnight. Adams Township Police say the suspects broke in just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning and targeted four Games of Skill machines, as well as the payout machine. Video shows the suspects physically removing the payout machine. Police say the machine was later found in the woods nearby, emptied of all the cash.

PUNXSUTAWNEY - Ten local pizzerias and organizations in Jefferson County will team up this weekend to create a 400-square-foot pizza. The event is being held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Punxsutawney Area Community Center. But the pizza challenge will also be a practice run and send-off for the owner of Punxsy Pizza, Scott Anthony. Anthony, representing Punxsutawney, will head to California on April 9 to help break the Longest Pizza World Record for Guinness World Records.

Indiana Co. church erecting 100+ foot cross that 'can be seen for miles'

Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — A giant cross in Indiana County has to be seen to be believed. The newly erected steel cross is located at Hilltop Baptist Church. Standing 108 feet high, and 70 feet wide, the steel cross can be seen from miles away. Church leaders say they've been working on it for several months now and so far, volunteers have committed thousands of hours to help build it.
