TSA officers at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport confiscate loaded gun, bullets

AVOCA, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — TSA officers at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport intercepted a loaded .40 caliber handgun along with a total of 20 bullets in two gun magazines at the airport checkpoint on Thursday, officials said. It was the first firearm that TSA officers have detected at the airport checkpoint this year. The weapon was caught as the man, a resident of Georgia, entered the security checkpoint. The X-ray unit alerted on the firearm among his carry-on items.

Wrong man charged with Hollidaysburg school threats

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — State Police in Hollidaysburg announced they have charged a different man with threats against schools in the Hollidaysburg School District and withdrawn charges again the man they originally arrested in the case. Javier Cantos Jr., 24, has now been charged with charges related to terroristic threats and risking catastrophe after threatening messages were received by the district. The release said he is not a threat to the district or the community, but did not indicate if he was in custody.

'It keeps you young!' 78-year-old participates in Ridgway 'Almost Naked Run'

RIDGWAY, Pa. (WJAC) — In Elk County, a New Year's Day tradition went on as planned Friday despite the rough weather. The Ridgway “Almost Naked Run” drew in about a dozen residents from across the area to participate in the short run. Organizers say runners wore bathing suits and Christmas garbs as they ran through downtown Ridgway. The run ended with participants jumping into the Clarion River. One of Friday’s runners was 78-year-old Bev Yates.

Cleanup continues after part of Tyrone business destroyed by fire

Spring Mills man accused of repeatedly abusing young girl over period of 5+ years

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Spring Mills man is behind bars following an investigation into allegations that he repeatedly sexually abused a young girl over a five-year period. According to the affidavit, police were first contacted in January of 2023, by the victim's mother, after the victim reportedly disclosed that she had been repeatedly abused by 35-year-old Vladimir Slavskiy. Police say the victim told investigators that the alleged abuse began in 2017, when she was approximately 7 or 8 years old.

BOISE, Idaho (KUTV) — Chad Daybell was sentenced to death Saturday for the murders of his wife and his girlfriend’s two youngest children in Idaho. The sentence was handed down after an Idaho jury unanimously agreed that imposing the death penalty would be a just resolution to the triple-murder case. The sentence marks the end of a grim investigation that began with a search for two missing children in 2019. The next year their bodies were found buried in Daybell’s eastern Idaho yard.
