Coalport residents continue cleanup after flash flooding

COALPORT -- The cleanup continues after flooding swept through parts of western Pennsylvania this week. One of the areas hit hardest was Coalport in Clearfield County. Neighbors said it came fast but it caused a lot of damage to basements, businesses and street corners. Water still flows through the town of Coalport and onto Main Street as cars splash through puddles. The fire department is doing their part to drain some areas and clean debris off the sidewalks.

Egypt 's 2 ex-presidents appear in the same courtroom

CAIRO (AP) — Two former Egyptian presidents appeared Wednesday in the same Cairo courtroom, with Hosni Mubarak testifying in a retrial of Mohammed Morsi on charges related to prison breaks at the height of the 2011 uprising that toppled Mubarak. The 90-year-old Mubarak, whose nearly three-decade rule was ended by a popular uprising in 2011, entered the courtroom with his two sons Alaa and Gamal. He carried a cane and wore a dark blue suit and matching tie.

SFU football players accused of raping woman in basement of home appear in court

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Two Saint Francis University football players who have been accused of raping a woman in the basement of a Loretto Borough home appeared in court Friday. In January, Marcel Mami and Daunte White were charged for allegedly raping the woman at a party. Both Mami and White entered not guilty pleas during Friday's preliminary hearing. Their attorneys also claimed that the alleged victim was lying and filed a motion to have their charges dismissed.

Spring Mills man accused of attacking officers with flagpole on Jan. 6 released on supervised bail

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man jailed two weeks ago on charges connected to the January 6th Capitol Riot is now out of prison. Federal authorities say Terry Allen, of Spring Mills, is accused of assaulting police officers with a flagpole. Allen is first accused of using a wooden flagpole as a lance, jabbing it at law enforcement officers and then later throwing a metal pole at officers.

Windber man accused of attacking employer with crowbar

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a Somerset County man is facing assault charges after he allegedly attacked his employer with a crowbar. Police say on Monday, 60-year-old Christopher Dayton reportedly went to Petrunak’s Store, in Windber, looking for work. Officials say when Dayton was told there was no work, he reportedly became violent, striking the store owner with a crowbar and then choking him on the ground. Police say after the attack, Dayton also reportedly damaged store displays and threatened an elderly customer.

Authorities searching for man who failed to appear in Clearfield Co. court

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Clearfield County Sheriff's office are searching for a 23-year-old man after he allegedly failed to appear in court. Officials say three separate warrants have been issued against River Stone, of Clearfield, after he reportedly failed to appear in court on DUI and drug-related charges. Check fraud suspect claimed 4 strangers 'had checks already printed out with his name'

WILDWOOD, Fla. (TND) — A man accused of visiting four bank branches and cashing forged checks had quite a story for deputies in the months before his eventual arrest. First, Franklin Bobby Hogans went to a bank in Florida on Jan. 5 and “presented the bank teller with the check made out to himself in the amount of $2,200 by [a construction company],” according to a detective’s affidavit for an arrest warrant.

Crosby selected to 10th NHL All-Star game

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been selected to his 10th NHL All-Star game. The 36-year-old currently leads the Penguins with 21 goals and is second on the team in total points. Crosby has now surpassed former Penguins' forward Jaromir Jagr for the second most All-Star game selections in franchise history. Mario Lemieux is only other player in Pittsburgh Penguins history with more All-Star game appearances, as he was selected to 13 throughout his career.

Fort Roberdeau to host special eclipse 'watch party'

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — If you’re in the Altoona area, the Starlight Astronomy Club will be hosting an eclipse watch party at the Mountain Lion Night Sky Observatory at Fort Roberdeau. Members of the club will be on hand to monitor sun gazers to make sure that they’re doing it safely. In addition to the safety glasses, they will also have several specially modified telescopes on hand to assist those wanting to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon.
