Allegheny Township officer in critical condition after cardiac arrest
ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP – An Allegheny Township police officer is in critical condition at UPMC Altoona after a cardiac arrest episode while on duty shortly after 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Allegheny Township Assistant Chief Michael Robison said.
Robison said the 44-year-old officer, whose name has not been released yet, was investigating a disorderly conduct-type of incident that turned into a foot pursuit, during which he collapsed and experienced cardiac arrest.
Allegheny Township police were responding to a report of a man causing a verbal disturbance at the Eldorado Mobile Home Park.
Former Raiders fullback Steve Smith dies at age 57
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Former Raiders fullback Steve Smith has died after a long battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was 57.
The Raiders announced Smith’s death Saturday, calling him an inspiration for “smiling every day while always working for a cure for” amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Smith was drafted in the third round by the Raiders in 1987 after starring in college at Penn State where he helped the Nittany Lions win their last national championship in the 1986 season.

Penguins bring back forward Drew O'Connor on two-year deal
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Wednesday that they have re-signed forward Drew O'Connor to a two-year deal.
O'Connor has played in parts of three seasons in the NHL after being signed by the Penguins as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
In 78 career games, O'Connor has tallied 8 goals and 9 assists. He also has 73 career points in 73 career AHL games.
O'Connor's new contract runs through the 2024-25 season and is worth approximately $925,000 annually.

The Centre County election board on Tuesday finally certified last month's primary election results after a legal challenge over mail-in ballots was dismissed in court.
Officials say it is too soon to say if the issues raised in the suit regarding how mail-in ballots are dated could have an impact in the November election.
