Two people dead after house fire in Indiana County
The Pennsylvania State Police Troop A Fire Marshal Unit is investigating a house fire that occurred in East Wheatfield Township Saturday morning that left two people dead, state police said.
According to a press release, crews from Armagh/East Wheatfield Township, Clyde, Brush Valley, Bolivar, Seward, and New Florence volunteer fire departments and Citizens’ Ambulance Service to a home along Fox Road just before 5:30 a.m.
State police said two individuals were located at the scene and pronounced dead, and that their names are being withheld at this time pending notification of next-of-kin.
Bishop McCort's Bo Bassett ties state history
JOHNSTOWN, PA (WJAC) - Bishop McCort Catholic eighth-grader Bo Bassett tied history this weekend. Bassett won his 8th Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling state championship, a previous record held solely by Nico Cortese from Franklin Regional. Over the course of the three-day tournament, no wrestler went the full length against Bassett. The world champion defeated every opponent he faced by technical fall in the first period. In the first place bout on the 117 lbs mats, Bassett won 19-4 technical fall in the first period.
Camp Cadet helps teach kids about law enforcement, self discipline
SCHELLSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Kids in Bedford County got a first hand look at what it's like to work in law enforcement.
This week, state and local law enforcement agencies held Camp Cadet at Camp Living Waters in Schellsburg.
This is the 29th year the camp has been held in Bedford County. Organizers say the free camp is designed for kids between the ages of 12 to 15 and is not a program for troubled youth.
Coroner called to scene of RT 36 crash in Jefferson County
ROSE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say a Punxsutawney man is dead after a one-vehicle crash in Jefferson County Tuesday morning.
According to state police, the crash happened along State Route 36 just after 11 a.m. when 77-year-old Robert Steel's vehicle failed to negotiate a downhill turn in Rose Township.
Troopers say Steel was ejected from his vehicle when it overturned and was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Brenda Shumaker.
New trial date set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Another trial date has been set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife several years ago.
Giles was initially scheduled to go to trial in March but the case was delayed as his defense awaited the results of a psychological evaluation.
In May of 2022, police charged Giles with homicide following a three-and-a-half year investigation into the disappearance and death of his wife Nancy.
Police investigating triple shooting in Allegheny County
Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania — Authorities in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania are investigating after a triple shooting left one man dead and two others hospitalized on Sunday.
A large police presence could be seen as Allegheny County dispatchers say police officers, firefighters and medics were called to the area of Siler Drive and Ridge Road.
Two men, one of which died from their injuries, as well as a woman were shot during the incident.
PSU Nittany Lion Shrine celebrates 75th birthday
UNIVERSITY PARK - Tuesday marked the 75th anniversary of the famous "Nittany Lion Shrine" on the campus of Penn State University. The Penn State community is happy to celebrate.
The shrine was a gift from the class of 1940. The lion was officially dedicated as a part of Penn State’s homecoming festivities. The iconic nittany lion was built from a 13-ton block of limestone.
The shrine has suffered some accidental damage and has been vandalized by rival fans on several occasions -- but the lion still stands.
Centre County sinkholes a continuous geological problem
STATE COLLEGE - The sinkhole on the 500 block of Brittany Drive in Patton Township was recently repaired, but not before it caused extensive road damage and major inconvenience for residents.
Officials said this isn’t the first time this has happened in Centre County and it won’t be the last.
“There’s sinkholes that form every day in Centre County all over the place,” said John Lichman, executive director of the State College Borough Water Authority.

Four more champs crowned in District 6 WednesdayJOHNSTOWN -- Wednesday brought with it plenty more baseball and softball. On the baseball diamond, Central captured the District 6-AAA championship with a victory over Tyrone. Juniata Valley did the same with a defeat of Moshannon Valley in the District.
