Traffic delays expected as Penn State football season kicks off
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A new Penn State football season brings more traffic to the State College area. But this year, construction on nearby highways might cause more delays than usual.

LA Talk Radio announced on Friday that it will not tolerate hateful speech and that it has severed ties with the host.
Us Weekly reports Acord-Whiting criticized Olsen, the co-host of "Two Chicks Talkin' Politics," after he was a guest on the show.
4 charged in 'drug intoxication' death of 2-year-old boy in Somerset County
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Somerset County say four individuals are facing involuntary manslaughter charges in the 2022 death of a 2-year-old boy in Milford Township.
Investigators say the child was found unresponsive on April 17, 2022 and was taken to UPMC Somerset, where he later died.
Officials say the child's cause of death was determined to be "multiple drug intoxication" as fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and xylazine were all reportedly found in his system.
Annual Ridgway Firemen's Carnival cancelled, fire department says
RIDGWAY, Pa (WJAC) — The Ridgway Fire Department announced that it has decided to cancel its annual Carnival, scheduled for early July, according to a Facebook post.
"After much discussion and consideration, the Ridgway Fire Department has deemed it necessary to cancel the 2020 Carnival due to COVID-19," the post states.
Officials added that they are still planning on hosting other events later in the year and that their annual Gun Bash is still scheduled for October.
Jeff Tech closes protective services program
REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. - The Jefferson County-DuBois Area Vocational-Technical School closed the protective services program on Monday.
The program at Jeff Tech was designed to prepare students for careers in criminal justice, emergency medicine and fire protection.
Executive director Barry Fillman said at this time each year, Jeff Tech considers what the programs are offering, based on student enrollment, occupational projections and the needs of the community.
The protective services program has seen a six-year decline in enrollment to its current enrollment of 12 students.
Owner concerned relief bill overlooks assisted living
DUNCANSVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) -- In a message shared to Facebook, State Senator Judy Ward announced a recently passed Senate bill would provide hundreds of millions of dollars to nursing homes and assisted living communities.
Timothy Coughlin, co-owner of The Winds at Mattern Orchard, a licensed assisted living community, said the Senate Bill would not give his facilities any assistance, despite their need.
“We are virus free at this point in time and since the very beginning,” Coughlin said.
Silo deaths prompt caution amongst farmers and EMS
Cambria County, PA — Farmers and first responders say harvesting season is here, which can bring dangers when working in structures like silo’s, remembering deadly incidents both recent, and in previous years. They note the amount of safety measures on their equipment to prevent injury or death. They say this includes ladder cages on silo’s, respirators, working with a partner, and air blowers to ventilate gasses from the crops.

AG files lawsuit against nursing home chain, including 3 with local ties
HARRISBURG - Attorney General Bruce R. Beemer has filed a consumer protection lawsuit against a chain of skilled nursing facilities accused of misleading consumers by failing to provide basic services to elderly and vulnerable residents.
Three of the 11 facilities have local ties: Altoona Center for Nursing Care at 1020 Green Ave. in Altoona, Cambria Care Center at 429 Manor Drive in Ebensburg and LaurelWood Care Center at 100 Woodmont Road in Upper Yoder Township.
