Local church daycare raises money for kids who lost family member to COVID
DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — A church daycare is helping some of its own after a devastating loss.
The Tri-County Church Kids Clubhouse in Sandy Township held a fundraiser for one of their kids Wednesday called “Jumps for Jake.”
Clearfield County native Jake McMinn passed away from COVID-19 in January.
His daughter Kenzley McMinn and two of his nieces attend the daycare.
The kids at the daycare participated in jumping activities such as jump roping, bouncy houses and potato sack races.
Local students learn financial skills by running credit union kiosk
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — It's something everyone has to learn how to do eventually: properly manage money. But it's something that many don't learn until they're out of school or on their own.
Conemaugh Valley High School has been working with nonprofit The Challenge Program for 10 years to give students the opportunity to get a handle on their finances and prepare them for the workforce.
Students learn money management by gaining hands-on experience running their own credit union kiosk, the Bird Cage, at the school.
$4 million awarded to John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport to develop access road
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — $4 million has been awarded to the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport to develop an access road.
The announcement was made by local, state, and federal representatives Thursday afternoon inside the airport.
Congressman Glenn "GT" Thompson secured the money for the improvement project.

Fourth person arrested in connection to viral Alabama riverfront brawl
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — A woman is now in custody and charged with third-degree assault in connection to a brawl that broke out last weekend on a riverfront dock in Montgomery. There are now four people charged in the incident, including three men who turned themselves in earlier this week.
Mary Todd, 21, turned herself in Thursday. She is currently being held in city jail. Richard Roberts, 48, Zachery Shipman, 25, and Allen Todd, 23 are also facing third-degree assault charges.
John F. Kennedy bust restored, rededicated shortly before anniversary of assassination
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Nov. 22 marks the 55th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, who was shot in Dallas, Texas in 1963.
Residents in Altoona can pay their respects at the Kennedy Memorial at Tuckahoe Park, where the newly refurbished Kennedy bust was rededicated just in time for the anniversary. The bust, which was first erected in 1964, was vandalized. It was restored through the efforts of the Central Pennsylvania National Guard and Veterans Association.
Officer struck, killed by train while trying to help suicidal person off of tracks
EASLEY, S.C. (WLOS) — A police officer from Upstate South Carolina has tragically passed away after being killed in the line of duty Wednesday morning.
A press release from the Pickens County Coroner's Office says 22-year-old Matthew Logan Hare with the Easley Police Department was responding along with another officer to an area of train tracks on Allen Street.
Police said the two were responding to a report of "a suicidal subject on the tracks,"
one man dead after vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in Dauphin County
One man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Dauphin County Thursday morning, state police said.
According to a press release, the incident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. on South River Road a half of a mile north of US 322 in Reed Township.
While details are limited at this time, state police said the individual, identified only at this time as a 62-year-old male from Jacksonville, Florida, was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Windber man, Johnstown business owner killed in weekend plane crash in Forest County
State police say a Windber man was reportedly killed over the weekend in a plane crash in Forest County.
According to a report from PSP Marienville, the body of 59-year-old John Burley was reportedly found Friday night in the area of Buzzard Swamp Road in Jenks Township.
Investigators say troopers were notified of reports of a suspected plane crash and an investigation led to the discovery of the crash site, where Burley was found deceased.
Annual National Pike Days held in Somerset Co.
A long-time Somerset County tradition wrapped up in the southern part of the county Friday.
National Pike Days was held in Addison Borough this week.
The event celebrates the national road and at one time even included covered wagons.
The Addison Volunteer Fire Department showed third graders from local schools some of their equipment, from the department's oldest apparatus, an 1890 chemical cart, to its newest piece of equipment: a newly acquired brush truck.

Two types of cameras went up in several location around Northern Cambria Borough last year looking to stop crime according to officials.
The borough's chief of police Derek Stitt said some of the cameras can read license plates and check if the car is stolen or connected to any other outstanding warrants.
Stitt said in September they started putting up cameras with artificial intelligence that can recognize a person's face or clothing and search a database to see if the individual is a suspect in a case.
