Electric rates could go up by request of FirstEnergy
An official with FirstEnergy said energy rates going up is not a done deal, but they are looking to have the prices raised next January.
This would be the first time Penelec has raised its base rate since 2017 according to a spokesman Todd Meyers.
Companies like Penelec and West Penn Power cannot just raise their rates according to Meyers. He said they must request that change to the p-a public utility commission.

Multiple crashes shut down lanes of RT 322
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC0 — Multiple crashes that shut down lanes in both directions of Route 322 Wednesday have reopened.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says the first crash happened sometime around 8 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes near the College Avenue exit.
Another crash was reported two hours later in the westbound lanes near Oak Hall and Lemont, according to PennDOT.
The first crash resulted in the death of a 47-year-old Bellefonte man.
Penn State President Eric Barron to receive 2.5% salary increase
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (WJAC) — Penn State President Eric Barron is getting a raise.
The university board of trustees approved a 2.5 percent pay hike for Barron on Friday, which will take his base pay to just over $876,000 per year.
Barron plans to retire from the university next summer.

Sandy Twp. asks judge to pause consolidation with DuBois over city manager's allegations
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Officials in Sandy Township have asked a judge to put a hold on the municipality's consolidation plans with the city of DuBois until the investigation into suspended city manager John "Herm" Suplizio has been completed.
According to a complaint filed on June 1st, the township is seeking a pause on the merger due to ongoing concerns over the city's financial situation.

"Saturday Night Live" comedienne and "Ghostbusters" star Leslie Jones has once again become the victim of online abuse -- this time in the form of a devastating hack into her website, according to reports. SCI Huntingdon prison employee charged for having sexual relationship with inmate
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections says an employee at SCI Huntingdon is facing charges after being caught on video engaging in sexual acts with an inmate.
Authorities say 52-year-old Kimberly Danfelt, of Mapleton Depot, is charged with one felony count of institutional sexual assault, according to online court documents.
Officials say Danfelt, who worked as a "garment factory foreman," was under investigation after authorities suspected her and a male inmate of smuggling contraband into the prison.
Security video captures brawl between mariachis, flame-swallower in Mexico
MEXICO — Mexico's often violent battles between street performers reached a new level this week when a group of a half-dozen burly street musicians - guitar-toting mariachis --- at first seemed to be prevailing in a brawl with another street performer, a flame-swallower.
What happened next was perhaps predictable.
According to security-camera video, the mariachis, in their white, silver-buttoned jackets, at first seemed to be winning, punching the flame-swallower to the ground and repeatedly kicking him on the sidewalk in front of a taco restaurant named, appropriately enough, Hell.
