Altoona RR museum planning 'birthday party' for iconic K4 steam engine

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Two years ago, the staff at the Railroaders Memorial Museum, along with FMW Solutions, began working to bring an iconic steam locomotive, the K4 1361, back to life. The two groups will be hosting a birthday party, called the “Juniata Jewel Jubilee,” on May 6th to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the engine first rolling out of the Pennsylvania railroad’s production shops in Altoona. Local Firehouse Subs hosts donation event to benefit Richland firefighters

RICHLAND, Pa (WJAC) — Firehouse Subs in Richland Township will celebrate its fifth anniversary on Sunday by giving back to local firefighters The restaurant plans to host a holiday food drive to benefit the live-in firefighters at the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department. People are asked to bring non-perishable donations like water, soup and granola bars to the restaurant on Sunday, between 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Anyone who donates will receive a free medium sub of their choice.

Orca spotted in Massachusetts waters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (TND) — A commercial fisherman, along with a handful of others, were treated to a rare sight in Massachusetts. Jerry Leeman, who lives in Maine, told The National Desk he saw an orca, which is also known as a killer whale, swimming in the waters off Cape Cod on Sunday. You don’t see this every day, folks – at least, not in New England,” he said in a video he shared on social media.

State College doctor sentenced

STATE COLLEGE – A State College doctor who recently had his license suspended for 30 months was sentenced Thursday. Kenneth Cherry Jr., who was accused of improperly prescribing controlled substances to a woman with whom he was having an affair, was sentenced to 18 months of probation and a day of community service on three misdemeanor charges of failing to keep proper records. Cherry, 58, an orthopedic surgeon at University Orthopedics Center in State College, had his license temporarily suspended July 10.

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson cleared to return to practice after hamstring injury

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson has been cleared to return to practice, opening the door for a potential return, possibly as early as this week. PIAA Wrestling State Championships

HERSHEY, PA (WJAC) - Three local wrestlers left the Giant Center as state champions. In 2A, Forest Hill's Jackson Arrington won his 3rd PIAA Individual Wrestling State Championship on the mats of 152 lbs. In 3A, Central Mountain's Dalton Perry won gold at at 126 lbs. and State College's Pierson Manville won his first state title at 138 lbs. Over 20 wrestlers left with medals in both 2A and 3A. State College woman involved in 2016 overdose death arrested for meth possession

STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — A State College woman involved in the 2016 overdose death of a Centre County woman is facing new drug charges after being arrested for possession of methamphetamine earlier this month, according to a criminal complaint. Sabine Graham, 27, was arrested on March 14 at the Exxon/Dunkin Donuts service station in State College after Rockview state police were notified that she was to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine, the complaint states.
